Opening Remarks by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (NY)
Non-traditional students make up 47% of undergraduates
today. These student face unique challenges to completing
their degree that include affording their education, balancing
work, school and family responsibilities, overcoming inadequate
academic preparation and navigating the college environment.
This
live webcast will address the needs of the non-traditional
student, as well as begin to search for solutions including
recent legislation sponsored by Senator Clinton and Senator
Bob Graham (FL) to assist these students by increasing
access to financial aid, rewarding schools for more flexible
scheduling and expansion of remedial programs, among other
initiatives.
This
is Senator
Hillary Rodham Clinton’s first ever appearance
held completely online. Her opening remarks on addressing
the needs of non-traditional students will be followed
by live interaction with the online audience and
a discussion
among leading experts in the community college movement,
including:
