PoetryLive brings learners and poets together virtually in cooperative
and community-building experiences that foster a deeper
understanding of the true issues at the heart of history
and contemporary culture. It aims to use poetry as
an accessible and common language for the study of
the humanities. All standards-based PoetryLive student
activities, faculty development workshops, and poet-led
sessions take place in a LearningTimes
Network community.
LearningTimes
has also worked with The Academy
of American Poets and Columbia
Teachers College to offer
professional development opportunities for high school teachers.
LearningTimes participation at
the Bread Loaf
Writers' Conference at Middlebury College introduced web-based,
synchronous pedagogical techniques to educators in the prestigious
Middlebury program, and showcased ways to effectively teach
poetry online.
The
PoetryLive program has been designed by Columbia University Teacher's College
Institute for Learning Technologies, LearningTimes and New York City school teachers,
with generous support from New Visions for Public Schools, the New York Life
Foundation, ULiveandLearn, and The
Academy of American Poets.
