March
23, 2005 -- LearningTimes
joined an outstanding group of innovators today, with
the announcement of our “Distinguished Partnership” with
the New Media Consortium (NMC). Like LearningTimes, NMC reaches
educators around the world – building communities among
people from leading colleges, universities, museums, corporations,
and other learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration
and use of new media and new technologies.
NMC
member institutions are found in almost every state in the US,
across Canada, and
in Europe, Latin America, and Japan.
Among the membership are an elite list of the most highly
regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as a growing
list of innovative museums, research centers, foundations,
and forward-thinking companies.
The LearningTimes
and NMC partnership will kick-off with 4 interactive webcasts during
the Online
Conference on Visual Literacy. Held completely
via the internet, April 5-6, 2005, this event will focus on how
emerging ideas, constructs, tools, and theories are fueling new interest
in visual communication in education.
Registration
is now open. Members of any of the 60+ LearningTimes Network Communities

As we continue
to explore new and more effective ways of bringing NMC members
together online, we have been looking for a partner
to help us to deliver live events via the Internet more effectively
and to larger groups than has been possible for us in the past.
I am pleased to report that we have found one.
Please join me in welcoming LearningTimes
as the NMC’s newest Distinguished Partner — the highest
level of corporate participation in the organization, and one that
reflects a deep commitment to the goals and purposes of the NMC.
LearningTimes
designs online learning communities and produces online conferences,
interactive webcasts and events for educational
and
cultural institutions. The growing LearningTimes Network (LTN)
now consists of over 60 custom built communities, with over 32,000
members.
LTN communities represent a wide variety of organizations within
the world of education, including K-12, higher education, educational
and web publishing, museums, government bodies, technology providers,
corporate training, nonprofit learning consortia and associations.
LearningTimes'
focus is on designing and producing learning communities that connect
people with other people, online. LearningTimes
believes in utilizing the Web to enable rich collaboration,
vibrant community
activity, and meaningful interaction between humans, especially
across distances. While the foundation of good learning relies
on access
to the right content, we believe that access to the right people,
in ways in which humans are comfortable interacting, is fundamental.
To accomplish its goals, LearningTimes seeks out or develops "best-of-breed" tools
to enhance the online experience of participants, presenters
and sponsors.
LearningTimes
joins a prestigious list of companies supporting the work of the
NMC. A complete list of NMC corporate partners
and member
institutions is available at http://www.nmc.org/membership.
