Gretchen Jennings is a museum educator and exhibition project director and developer. Her B.A. and M.A. are in History from, respectively, St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana and Concordia University, Montreal.

She served most recently as Director of Education for Interpretation and Visitor Experience at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. She has been a project director or senior staff member on several major traveling exhibitions, including Invention at Play, Secrets of Aging, and Psychology: Understanding Ourselves, Understanding Each Other. Both Invention at Play and Psychology received awards of exhibition excellence from the American Association of Museums. The Invention at Play website, www.inventionatplay.org also received an award of excellence from the Media and Technology Committee of AAM.

Ms. Jennings has published and spoken widely on topics that include cultural diversity, exhibition development, project management for traveling exhibitions, and the creation of appropriate museum spaces for young children. From 1996 to 1999 she served as Editor in Chief for the Journal of Museum Education. In May 2007 she became Managing Editor of the Exhibitionist, the journal of the National Association of Museum Exhibition (NAME). Currently Ms. Jennings consults with museums on a range of topics.
