of Systems and e-Services
St. John's University Libraries
Brian Mikesell is currently
Acting Director of Systems and eServices for the St. John's University Libraries.
His primary responsibility is to provide leadership in the development and deployment
of
online library services for all five campuses of St. John's University (Queens,
Staten Island, Manhattan, Oakdale, and Rome). He works within the Libraries and
with other University units to visualize new services and develop nascent projects.
With virtual libraries
increasingly built, collections digitized, and secure access
ensured, the St. John's University Libraries are committed
to developing innovative e-services in support of teaching
and learning at St. John's University. The Libraries actively
seek new modes of service; use technology to improve service;
and form partnerships both inside and outside the University.
Mr. Mikesell holds
master's degrees in both Library and Information Science
(Long Island University) and Photography (New York University)
as well as bachelor's degrees in both Photography and Folklore
(Indiana University). He has taught as an adjunct faculty
member for the Palmer School of Library and Information
Science at Long Island University and for the Division
of Library and Information Science at St. John's University.
Also an origami
enthusiast, Mr. Mikesell spends hours and hours folding
tiny pieces of paper into fanciful shapes, most recently
focusing on Kusudama Ball Origami.
