HistoryQuest.US connects
classrooms with local museums, and encourages students to become
experts on specific objects or museum collections through actual
site visits and other research. Using live, audio-based virtual
classrooms and voice-based discussion forums, students then
teach counterparts in other locations and guide the discussion
on specific historical and social themes engendered by the
selected pieces. Among the museums participating are the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, the Whitney
Museum of American Art, and the New
York Transit Museum.
LearningTimes has
provided the leadership in organizing the coalition of museums involved
in this project. Together with Columbia Teachers College Institute
for Learning Technologies, LearningTimes has designed the curriculum
and developed the community platform used by students and teachers
in the project.
