I was assured by the natives that the city is showing off for us and that it is not generally so sunny here at this time of year. But hey - I’ll take it! Flying in over the city yesterday was a beautiful sight.
Let me introduce myself before going any further - my name is Sarah and I am the Outreach Librarian at Hunter College in New York City. This is my first time attending ACRL, and I have been grappling with what to write about as a conference blogger and first time attendee.
I’ve been mulling over the Green Pledge since registering for the conference, and I decided to challenge myself to get through the entire thing without using a single plastic bag or water bottle. I came armed with my Sigg water bottle, and I hear tell that the conference swag includes a reusable coffee mug - swell! This also means that every time I stop at the drug store, or buy a cheesy Space Needle snow globe I will have to remember to refuse the plastic bag and put whatever treasures I collect into my handy conference tote bag. Isn’t that why we get them in the first place?
Is anyone else challenging themselves to uphold the pledge? What are you doing to stay green at this conference? Do you think you can translate it back into your day to day life? I’d like to hear what you are doing! And all you virtual conference attendees - are you sticking to the Green Pledge from home?
