I wanted to write a day one wrap up last night. I did. But I had to go to sleep- I was exhausted. I got to the conference center yesterday at 8 am for my preconference. Had a quick lunch during that. Went straight from preconference to keynote. From there right over to the exhibit reception (excellent food by the way, I was surprised. Great “regional” tastes with the salmon and crab cakes). Got more wrapped up in exhibits than I thought and scuttered over to gaming night. I had been looking forward to it, and it didn’t disappoint. I met some new people and played my favoite game ever- Rock Band. I tried some Dance Dance Revolution. Myself and a handful of others shut the place down It was a really great venue for a first-timer to meet other people, since gaming really brings people together. But by the time I left gaming and got back to my hotel, it was late and I couldn’t bring myself to think and type. It was a long day (8 am to 10:30 pm) at the conference and was exhausted from being out and about all day, but it was great. It was a wonderful first day and I never felt out of place. Thanks to all of the other nice librarians that I talked to throughout the day who welcomed me and made me feel comfortable.

Hi, I’m Anna, and this will be my first national conference of any kind. I’m a relatively new librarian- I got my MLIS from Florida State University in 2007 and I work at Florida Gulf Coast University as an Assistant University Librarian. I do some subject liaison type work with the Communication and Philosophy department and I am also the “go-to” gal here for web-based instruction projects.

I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can and meeting some new people at ACRL. I’m not so excited about leaving this beautiful 80 degree weather behind for Seattle, but I can deal with it. I just have to figure out if I have anything other than my “nice” jeans to wear in such frigid conditions (see the Twitter feed).

Tonight, I’ve got to finish packing and I’m off tomorrow morning-  getting into Seattle  in the early evening (south Florida is just about as far away from Seattle in the US that you can get, it seems). Hey, what does anyone know about Gaming Night on Thursday? I’m a huge Rock Band fan, so I’m hoping to maybe get in on some of that. I have a Xbox and a PS3, but no Wii, so I may have to try some Wii games as well. Should be fun.
