Brenda Anderson is an instructional specialist in the School Library Media Programs department in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Maryland. In this position, Brenda provides professional development and curriculum support to over 200 media specialists. She also provides technology integration training focusing on incorporating online services, Web 2.0 tools, and media production software into information literacy instruction. Brenda is part of the MCPS curriculum development team that is developing an on-line integrated elementary curriculum for the district. As a member of this team, she is infusing information and technology literacy skills into the content curriculum. She is an adjunct graduate instructor for the school library media programs at the University of Maryland and McDaniel College where she has taught action research and technology integration.

Previously, Brenda worked as an elementary library media specialist for sixteen years. During this time Brenda was the teacher sponsor of her school’s student film crew that produced a school news program and other curriculum related productions. She has also been the coordinator of the Montgomery County Schools Media Festival, a two-day event that displays students’ media products at the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Brenda is a member of the district’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Internet Safety committees. She currently serves as the professional development chair for the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Special Interest Group Media Specialists (SIGMS). In addition, Brenda was a member of the 2007-2008 cohort in the Johns Hopkins University online graduate certificate in School Administration and Supervision partnership with ISTE. She served as a Social Networking Intern with ISTE. As part of the internship, Brenda wrote entries that focused on professional resources for ISTE’s Facebook and MySpace blogs.
